Qatari air defences intercept missile attack targeting US base

Condemnation from Doha
Qatar on Monday condemned Iran’s missile strike on an airbase located on its territory, calling the attack a “blatant violation” of its sovereignty and airspace, Anadolu Ajansi reported.
The Gulf state said it reserves the right to respond in line with international law, said a Foreign Ministry spokesperson on X, following a missile attack by Iran in retaliation for weekend US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
Majed Al Ansari expressed Qatar’s “strong condemnation of the attack on the airbase by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard,” calling it “a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the state of Qatar, its airspace, international law, and the United Nations Charter.”
He stressed that “Qatar reserves the right to respond proportionately and directly to this blatant aggression, in accordance with international law.”
He said the base had been evacuated earlier as part of precautionary protocols, given the escalating tensions in the region.
All necessary measures were taken to protect personnel at the facility, including Qatari armed forces, allied troops, and others stationed at the site, he added.
Al Ansari confirmed that no casualties had resulted from the attack.
US monitoring situation
The Pentagon confirmed on Monday that a key airbase in Qatar came under attack from missiles launched from Iran, as fears of regional escalation continue to mount following US airstrikes on three key nuclear facilities over the weekend, Anadolu Ajansi reported.
“I can confirm that Al Udeid Airbase was attacked by short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles originating from Iran today,” a Defence Department official said in a statement.
“At this time, there are no reports of US casualties. We are monitoring this situation closely and will provide more information as it becomes available.”
Al Udeid is the largest American military base in the Middle East. The sprawling facility serves as the in-region headquarters for US Central Command, or Centcom.
The Iranian missile attacks came after US strikes on key Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday morning, ordered by President Donald Trump.
Iran’s Chief of Staff Abdolrahim Mousavi vowed on Monday that the US strikes on its nuclear facilities “will not go unanswered.”
Trump warned that any Iranian retaliation “will be met with force far greater than what was witnessed” during the weekend strikes.
