Police nab 3 suspects, aged 19 to 20, over Cyberjaya student death

Police have arrested three people as part of an investigation into the death of Maniishapriet Kaur, a 20-year-old university student, in Cyberjaya.

Sepang police chief Norhizam Bahaman said that one man and two women aged between 19 and 20 were detained in Johor and Negeri Sembilan, respectively.

“Arrests were made within 48 hours after the police report was received.

“A remand order will be sought for both suspects this morning at Sepang Sessions Court to assist with investigations,” he added.

Police confirmed that the trio are also known to the victim.

“The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” Norhizam said.

Yesterday, he said that the victim was confirmed dead at the scene, and that initial investigations found no signs of a break-in.

Further examination of the body found there were injuries to the head due to blunt force trauma, and there were no signs of injuries indicating rape.

Calls for justice have also emerged for Maniishapriet, who was found dead in off-campus accommodation in Cyberjaya.

The motive of the crime has yet to be established, but Perikatan Nasional education portfolio head Saifuddin Abdullah said it raises serious concerns regarding the safety of students at private institutions of higher learning.

“A full and transparent investigation must be conducted immediately, and justice must be served for the victim and their family.

“The government (must) re-evaluate safety standard operating procedures at private higher education institutions, including campus security systems, access control, and cooperation with relevant authorities,” said the Indera Mahkota MP.
