Calls for justice after varsity student found dead in Cyberjaya condo

Calls for justice have rung out for a university student found dead in an external accommodation in Cyberjaya two days ago, believed to have been murdered.

The motive of the crime has yet to be established, but Perikatan Nasional education portfolio head Saifuddin Abdullah said it raises serious concerns regarding the safety of students at private institutions of higher learning.

“A full and transparent investigation must be conducted immediately, and justice must be served for the victim and their family.

“The government (must) re-evaluate safety standard operating procedures at private higher education institutions, including campus security systems, access control, and cooperation with relevant authorities,” said the Indera Mahkota MP.

Sepang police chief Norhizam Bahaman said a police team went to the scene, a student hostel located in a condominium unit, after receiving a report regarding the discovery of the 20-year-old woman at 10.28am on Tuesday.

He said the victim was confirmed dead at the scene, and initial investigations found that there were no signs of a break-in.

Further examination of the body found there were injuries to the head due to blunt force trauma, and there were no signs of injuries indicating rape.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Completely unacceptable

Separately, DAP senator RA Lingeshwaran described the crime as completely unacceptable and raised serious concerns about standards of safety.

“It (the crime) emphasises the urgent need for justice.

“Those responsible must be held accountable, and the legal system must ensure that the punishment reflects the severity of their actions,” he stressed.

Lingeshwaran said the establishments meant to protect residents also have a crucial role to play in preventing such incidents.

“They must take security seriously and ensure that measures such as functioning CCTV and proper lighting are in place.

“It is not enough to simply blame mechanical failures; they must actively maintain and improve these systems.

“If they fail to provide necessary safety, they too must bear some responsibility for the consequences,” he said.

Wanita MIC chief N Saraswati also posted a condolence message and echoed calls for justice to be upheld.

While the condolence messages and statements have named the victim, authorities are still withholding her identity pending ongoing investigations.
