Sabah reps: We've been humiliated in the media, but will prove innocence

The Sabah assemblyperson and assistant state minister who were charged with graft today said they have been unfairly portrayed in the media.

Sindumin assemblyperson Yusof Yacob, however, expressed confidence that the court process will prove their innocence.

“I want to stress that I firmly believe we are not guilty in this corruption case.

“At this point, both Andi (Suryady Bandy) and I uphold the principle that a person is innocent until proven guilty.

“Perhaps we have been humiliated in the media, but through this process, we will clear our names in court,” the Qhazanah Sabah chairperson told the media after posting bail at the Kota Kinabalu court on Monday.

Earlier, Yusof (above, right) was charged with receiving RM200,000 in bribes from businessperson Albert Tei in March 2023 to help process a prospecting licence for Syarikat Nusa Kini Sdn Bhd.

Also charged was Sabah industrial and entrepreneurship assistant minister Andi for receiving RM150,000 in cash from Tei to facilitate a licence application for Syarikat Sinaran Hayat Sdn Bhd.

Tei was then charged with offering the bribes.

Andi said that both he and Yusof would not allow the proceedings to distract them from their responsibilities as elected representatives.

“Yusof and I will prove our innocence, clear our names, and God willing, everything will go smoothly.

“So we do not want this to distract us - we will remain focused on our duties in serving our constituencies,” he said.
