Zahid's daughter takes veiled jab at Hisham's 'no suspension appeal'

An Umno women’s wing leader has asserted that the party’s struggle does not hinge on individual personalities, in what appeared to be a veiled swipe at former party vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein.

Wanita Umno executive council member Nurulhidayah Zahid said the party’s strength instead lies in the sacrifices of those who prioritised its cause over personal ambition.

“Umno’s resurgence is not dependent on a personality but rather its members’ relentless fighting spirit.

“Umno is a party built based on loyalty, discipline, and our struggles rather than name or legacy.

“The party’s history is premised on the sacrifices made by champions who put party above self,” the daughter of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said on Facebook today.

Nurulhidayah’s remarks came a day after Hishammuddin indicated he would not appeal his six-year suspension from the party.

The Sembrong MP said he made the decision on principle, claiming he was denied a fair hearing by the party leadership.

“Yesterday, the supreme council made their decision, and that decision reflects who they (leaders) are, not who we (members) are. They have made their choice.

“And now, I will move forward with dignity and principle. This is a struggle for values and meaning.

“An appeal is not the measure of my loyalty; it is the principles within the party that determine our loyalty as party members,” he added.

Discipline above all

Nurulhidayah emphasised that discipline takes precedence in Umno’s decision-making, as it is key to the party’s stability and survival, not personal sentiments.

She said while Umno remains open to all, including former and current leaders, it welcomes only those who are sincere and willing to realign themselves for the party’s collective good.

“When it comes to filing an appeal, it’s not kow-towing but a sign of responsibility to those who had used the platform to boost their names and struggles,” she added.
