Star deputy president denies RM530k corruption claim

Another Sabah minister accused of accepting a bribe in exchange for approving mining licences has denied the allegation, in a graft scandal which has implicated more than a dozen assemblypersons under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) administration.

Responding to a Malaysiakini June 28 report, Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Ellron Angin denied receiving an alleged RM530,000 bribe in connection with the corruption scandal.

"I categorically deny the allegation that I received a bribe or was involved in a transaction worth RM530,000.

"This accusation is a baseless slander driven by immature political motives, and it tarnishes my good name and integrity as a people’s representative," said the four-term Sook assemblyperson.

The Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) deputy president's denial follows a rebuttal from party president Jeffrey Kitingan, who was also implicated in the report that named four other GRS leaders as well.

A source previously provided Malaysiakini with screenshots said to be from video recordings involving the six leaders, allegedly linked to RM3.96 million.

Commenting further, Ellron (above) said, "I have always upheld the principles of integrity, accountability, and clean governance, in line with the Sabah state government’s commitment to combating corruption."

Ellron added that he had instructed his legal team to initiate action against any parties spreading "false accusations" against him.
