Jakim, S'gor religious agency to probe event over alleged deviant elements

The Islamic Development Department (Jakim) will investigate a motivational programme, known as eHATI, which allegedly featured elements and practices deviating from Islamic teachings.

In a statement today, Jakim director-general Sirajuddin Suhaimee said the department will work with the Selangor state religious authority to conduct a probe to verify information obtained on the event before taking appropriate action.

“This integrated effort is also part of Jakim and the state religious authorities' commitment to combat any deviant elements, practices, or the influence of distorted cultural values within the society,” he said.

Sirajuddin added that the government remains firm in addressing any issues involving the interests of Muslims, particularly those concerning the harmony of family institutions, morality, and the preservation of Islamic values.

He also called on all Malaysians, especially Muslims, not to be influenced by ideologies and lifestyles that contradict Islamic teachings and local cultural values.

“The public is encouraged to continuously cooperate with Jakim and state religious authorities by providing information and reporting matters related to such issues, to help curb any elements that are in conflict with Islamic law,” he added.

According to a Facebook post, the all-female programme in Shah Alam is said to have featured a brand founder and event facilitators stripping their clothes before inviting participants to drink an unknown liquid, which allegedly caused sudden mood changes.

Besides urging attendees to dance in a provocative manner, participants were also supposedly asked to take part in a sacred bath and “rebirth” activity.
