Attack on Rafizi's son: Cops pursuing all angles, including politics

Police are investigating the assault on Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli’s son from all angles, including to determine if it was politically motivated, said Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar.

He said the probe is being carried out under three provisions, namely Sections 352 and 324 of the Penal Code for assault and causing hurt by dangerous weapons, and Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act.

“We are looking at all aspects.

“So far, there is no lead to suggest that it was (politically motivated), but we are looking at all angles,” he told Malaysiakini.

According to Shazeli (above), the probe was being conducted under the sexual offences against children law because the perpetrators had body contact with Rafizi’s son, who is 12.

Police are still working to identify and track down the suspects, he added.

When asked if authorities have identified the content of the syringe used by the attackers, the police chief said they have to wait for analysis results.

“So far, the (condition of the) victim is alhamdulillah (okay). He has already been released from (the) hospital.”

Yesterday, it was reported that two men on a motorcycle had attacked Rafizi’s son when the boy and his mother were leaving a shopping centre in Putrajaya at about 1.45pm.

They were clad in black and covered their faces using full-face helmets, and one of the men dragged the victim and gave him an injection.

Rafizi, in a statement yesterday, condemned the attack, which he believed was an attempt to silence him from speaking out on certain issues.
