Ismail Sabri lodges report after being linked to Rafizi's son's attack

Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has lodged a police report after being linked to the recent mall attack on Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli's son.

In a statement today, the Bera MP said his press secretary had lodged the report on his behalf at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters against a Facebook page that had published two allegedly false and defamatory articles linking him to the incident, and to a scandal concerning a private company.

"A report has also been made to the MCMC and Facebook, so that immediate action can be taken against the page and its operator or owner.

"The entire content of the articles published on the aforementioned Facebook page is completely untrue and maliciously intended to damage my reputation and good name.

"I request that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation and take firm action against the owner or operator of this Facebook account, as well as any parties spreading the said articles. I have also instructed my solicitor to take further legal action against the parties involved," he said.

Ismail Sabri also thanked Rafizi, who had earlier clarified the matter on X.

Rafizi’s clarification

Rafizi disclosed that the whistleblower meeting he attended - just before his son was attacked - centred on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s former aide Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

The former economy minister hinted that the assault, in which his 12-year-old son was stabbed with a syringe at a Putrajaya mall car park, may have been a direct consequence of that meeting.

At the time, Rafizi only said the meeting involved a “certain individual”, but he has now revealed further details after attempts were made to link the attack to Ismail Sabri and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, under the claim that he was investigating cases tied to them.

The PKR lawmaker slammed this as a “malicious attempt to divert attention”.

“It has nothing whatsoever to do with Ismail Sabri, Khairy, or any other politician,” he posted on X.
