Woman held after rushing Sultan Nazrin at Perak National Day do

Police are investigating an incident involving a woman who ambushed Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah during the state-level National Day celebration in Ipoh today.

The incident saw the 41-year-old local woman managing to get on a stage while the national anthem was being played.

Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin, however, affirmed that the individual was successfully restrained by on-duty security personnel.

He added that the suspect, who was arrested at the scene and taken to a police station for further action, has prior records related to drug cases.

“Further checks also found that she has a history of psychiatric treatment and is under specialist supervision,” Noor Hisam said.

He noted that a urine test conducted on the suspect returned negative results.

The case is being investigated under Section 325/511 of the Penal Code for attempting to cause grievous hurt.

Noor Hisam urged the public to respect official state ceremonies and refrain from any actions that may disrupt public order and safety.

According to videos of the incident uploaded to social media by netizens, the woman can be seen making a beeline for Sultan Nazrin as the ruler and other attendees stood for the national anthem.

With security personnel hot on her heels, the woman seemingly managed to embrace the ruler before being tackled to the ground by several officers.
