Police: Student lied about kidnapping after cat soiled school shoes

A 13-year-old student in Shah Alam allegedly fabricated a kidnapping story to avoid going to school after his shoes were soiled by cat faeces, police said.

According to Bernama, Shah Alam district police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said the boy admitted to lodging the false report as an excuse for his father, as he did not want to attend school because of his dirty shoes.

Iqbal said that police had received a report at 9.22am today claiming the boy was nearly abducted on his way to school.

"Investigations revealed that the student had informed his 37-year-old father about the matter before both of them came to the Shah Alam district police headquarters' criminal investigation division (CID), to provide statements on the alleged abduction.

"During questioning, it was found that the report made by the student was totally untrue," Bernama reported Iqbal saying in a statement today.

The case was not pursued further as the student is still in school, but both he and his father were given a stern warning.

"The case has been closed, and the victim's father has withdrawn the police report after being informed of the actual incident," Iqbal added.

He also reminded the public not to lodge false reports, warning that offenders risk up to six months’ jail, a fine of RM2,000, or both, under Section 182 of the Penal Code.
