Rafizi's son's attacker still unidentified as CCTV unclear - IGP

Police are still probing the Aug 13 assault on former economy minister Rafizi Ramli’s 12-year-old son, said Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail.

Khalid said while police had secured CCTV footage of the attack, the identity of the assailant remains unknown due to the poor quality of the recording.

“We have identified a few individuals from the CCTV footage, but the footage isn’t very clear and the (identities) cannot be ascertained,” the New Straits Times quoted Khalid as saying.

He added that the hospital is still assessing the contents of the syringe Rafizi’s son was stabbed with during the attack at a car park of a shopping mall in Putrajaya.

Rafizi recently told Malaysiakini that there have been no new developments from the police on the attack, noting that he plans to press the authorities for an update.

On Aug 22, Khalid said the police have recorded statements from 19 people, including Rafizi’s family members, while waiting on a chemical report from the hospital for details on the fluid that was injected into the PKR MP’s son.

Following the attack on his son, who has been attending regular medical check-ups to determine the substance injected into him, Rafizi’s wife received a chilling text message that read: “Diam! Andai teruskan, AIDS!” (Shut up! If you continue, AIDS!), punctuated with three syringe emojis.

A week after the assault, Rafizi revealed that he had earlier attended a whistleblower meeting, with the session touching on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s former political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

Rafizi hinted that the attack may have been a direct consequence of that meeting.

In response, Farhash denied any involvement with the incident, dismissing the allegations as “crazy”.

Rafizi had also urged the MACC to investigate Farhash after the latter was implicated in a mining scandal in Sabah.
