Over 400 artists join 'No Music for Genocide' boycott targeting Israel

More than 400 singers and artists worldwide joined a boycott aimed at removing their music from Israeli streaming platforms in protest against the ongoing genocide in Gaza, reported Anadolu Ajansi.

Images of Palestinians - particularly children - suffering from hunger amid Israel’s continuing attacks have fuelled growing outrage and calls for action.

According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the “No Music for Genocide” initiative urges artists to withdraw their works from Israeli platforms.

Signatories include British band Massive Attack, Scottish group Primal Scream, and American indie outfit Japanese Breakfast, as well as US singer-songwriter Carole King, Japanese pop star Rina Sawayama, and Danish artist MØ.

In a statement, organisers said the boycott seeks to pressure major record labels - including Sony, Universal, and Warner - to follow the precedent set after Russia invaded Ukraine by taking similar measures against Israel.

“Culture can’t stop bombs on its own,” the statement read. “But it can help reject political repression, shift public opinion towards justice, and refuse the art-washing and normalisation of any company or nation that commits crimes against humanity.”

The boycott forms part of a wider wave of cultural, sporting, and artistic protests worldwide against Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza.
