Perak Bersatu division chiefs join call for action against Wan Saiful

Perak Bersatu division chiefs have rebuked supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan and several other leaders over their recent statement, urging the party to take swift disciplinary action.

In a joint statement, the state division leaders said the remarks made by the Tasek Gelugor MP, along with Sepang division chief Suhaimi Ghazali, Ampang division chief Isa Zaidi, and Ipoh Timor division chief Fadhli Ismail, were “misleading” and had damaged the party’s reputation.

“The statement was not only misleading but also tarnished the good name and image of the party in the eyes of the public.

“It in no way reflects the discipline and organisational decorum that have been the foundation and strength of Bersatu since its inception,” said the leaders, echoing calls by Bersatu divisions from Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu.

Yesterday, Wan Saiful (above), during a press conference attended by a group of division chiefs from among 120 divisions who appear to support him, stressed that they were only speaking out on the statutory declaration (SD) issue after sustained attacks, allegedly by other party leaders.

He had also denied attempts to solicit support to topple party president Muhyiddin Yassin, saying instead the SDs signed were based on a succession plan agreed upon after Bersatu’s annual general meeting last year.

‘Open challenge inappropriate’

The Perak Bersatu leaders today, however, insisted the party already has official channels for members to voice opinions and resolve differences.

“Issuing public statements with a tone that challenges party leadership is inappropriate and only opens the door to slander and creates doubt about the unity of Bersatu’s struggle,” they said.

The division leaders called on the party’s supreme leadership council and disciplinary board to act against any member - including Wan Saiful - whose actions contravened party policy.

“Such firm measures are necessary to prevent indiscipline from recurring and spreading within the party,” they added.

Earlier today, the Bersatu disciplinary board said it would convene a proceeding “soon” and vowed to take stern action, including immediate expulsion, against members found guilty of breaching party discipline and tarnishing its image.

Support for Muhyiddin

The Perak Bersatu leaders further urged members at all levels to rally behind Muhyiddin and not be swayed by any movement that could damage the party’s name.

The joint statement was endorsed by 14 out of 24 Perak Bersatu division leaders, including Batu Gajah’s Mohader Ahmad Ayob, Ipoh Barat’s Iskandar Abdul Rahman, Kuala Kangsar MP Hashim Bujang, and Tanjong Malim’s Yadzan Mohammad.

The 15th signatory listed is Tambun deputy division chief Hafez Mubin Salleh.

Tambun Bersatu is led by Bersatu vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is not listed as a signatory but shared the joint statement on his Facebook.
