Bandar Utama murder: 'My daughter was stabbed 200 times'

The mother of the Bandar Utama schoolgirl who died from her injuries following an attack by a 14-year-old assailant made a shocking revelation that her daughter was allegedly stabbed 200 times.

At a press conference held at her 16-year-old daughter, Yap Shing Xuen's wake, Wong Lee Ping lamented that many falsehoods had been circulating on social media since the incident at her daughter’s school.

"We know online reports say 50 stab wounds, but in reality, my daughter suffered 200 stab wounds. She had 200 stab wounds from the stabbing. Not slashes, but stabs.

"From the upper right side down to the leg area," Wong said, adding that the injuries were mainly on the right side of Yap's body.

She said she was made to understand that the suspect had allegedly jumped from above the lavatory while Yap was inside and had locked the door.

"He jumped down from above into the cubicle and stabbed her. My daughter screamed loudly; someone heard her," Wong claimed, adding that the assailant had fled the scene by the time anyone arrived.

"By the time the teacher came and forced the door open, she was already gone," Wong said.

Tragic death

Yap was stabbed to death at her school in Bandar Utama, Selangor, two days ago, with reports stating that unrequited love was among the angles being investigated.

Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar has since confirmed that the suspect, who is Yap's schoolmate, did not express his romantic feelings towards her.

He said the suspect was also undergoing counselling for his academic performance, not for psychological help, and that the school was not aware of the teen’s behavioural problems.

The New Straits Times reported him as saying that violent video games and certain social media content may have played a role in the fatal stabbing.

Several lawmakers, namely Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng and his wife Betty Chew, as well as Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin, turned up at Yap's wake at the Nirvana Center Kuala Lumpur (Nirvana 2).

Fadhlina did not address queries from the media.
