Cops probing assault of Standard One pupil by older schoolmates

The mother of a Standard One pupil has lodged a police report after her seven-year-old son was allegedly beaten up by two older students at a primary school in Shah Alam.

"Based on the report, her seven-year-old son was beaten by two Standard Three pupils while at the school canteen," district police chief Iqbal Ibrahim was reported as saying by the New Straits Times.

A video recording of the incident has also gone viral on social media.

Iqbal said the mother lodged the report on Oct 15, and the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

Section 323 pertains to the punishment for voluntarily causing hurt. It is a criminal offence that is punishable by imprisonment for a term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

According to Iqbal, the victim has been admitted to the Shah Alam Hospital for further treatment and is in stable condition.

He also urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the investigating officer, Nor Sabryna Taha, at 014-513 0450 or visit the nearest police station.

Over the recent months, the country has witnessed a string of school violence cases ranging from bullying to murder.

On Tuesday, the police arrested a 14-year-old student at a school in Petaling Jaya in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old schoolmate.

The incident came on the heels of a group of Form Four students gang-raping a Form Three student at a school in Malacca.
