Don't engage suspended, sacked people - Bersatu members warned

Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali has warned party leaders and members at all levels not to engage with individuals who have been subjected to disciplinary action by the party’s disciplinary board.

In a circular issued to state leadership councils and divisional chiefs, Azmin (above) reminded them that such actions would constitute a serious breach of the party’s constitution and code of conduct.

“State leadership bodies, leaders, and members at the division, branch, and wings levels are reminded not to be involved in any form of organisation, meetings, or discussions with any party or individual who has been subjected to disciplinary action by the party disciplinary board,” he said.

Malaysiakini sighted the internal document, and a Bersatu division leader separately confirmed receiving the letter dated today.

Azmin stressed that party members are bound by Clause 9.1 of Bersatu’s constitution, which outlines the responsibility of every member to uphold the party’s objectives and implement its policies.

The former minister added that Clause 9.1.4 specifically requires members to abide by the constitution, as well as the code of ethics and conduct for party members.

“Those who have been disciplined should make use of the provisions under Clause 22.6 to submit an appeal to the appeals board and not act beyond the limits of the party constitution.

“It is an offence for any member to collude with external parties, including those who have been punished by the party, to incite members or make statements that tarnish the good name and dignity of the party,” Azmin stressed.

Action against Wan Saiful, Wan Fayhsal

On Oct 14, Bersatu sacked its supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan as well as four party division chiefs.

The party also suspended its Machang MP, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, for one term.

While the disciplinary board did not detail the violations, it is believed that Wan Saiful and the four division leaders were expelled in connection with a recent attempt to pressure Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin into handing over party leadership to his deputy, Hamzah Zainudin.

Azmin, in the letter, also warned that members who conspire with or support individuals punished by the disciplinary board would be deemed to have violated the party’s constitution and ethics code.

He further directed state leadership bodies to monitor and remind all members to adhere to party rules.

“Any offence, misconduct, or violation of the party constitution by any Bersatu member will result in firm action as stipulated in Clause 22.5,” Azmin said, urging members to uphold Bersatu’s constitution and “cherish the party as an inclusive and progressive platform” for the nation’s future.
