The Bersatu disciplinary board has reportedly summoned Saifuddin Abdullah after the Indera Mahkota MP openly began campaigning for the resignation of party president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Saifuddin was quoted as saying by Astro Awani that the meeting will be held this Thursday at the party headquarters.

The Bersatu supreme council member went public with his opposition to Muhyiddin last week.

He also called for his former PKR ally Azmin Ali - who is a staunch Muhyiddin supporter - to be removed as Bersatu secretary-general, citing "morality".

Saifuddin (above) was subsequently removed as Pahang Perikatan Nasional chief.

Critics are calling for Muhyiddin to hand over the reins to his deputy, Hamzah Zainudin, citing a need to revive public confidence in the party in preparation for the next general election.

Saifuddin defended his criticism of the party president, saying Muhyiddin had done the same when Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was Umno president.

Numbers allegedly rising

Besides calling for a change in leadership, Saifuddin and 15 other Bersatu lawmakers also signed a letter addressed to Muhyiddin voicing objection to the sacking of Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan and the suspension of Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

They also objected to the disciplinary board summoning Hamzah.

Yesterday, Saifuddin claimed that there were actually more than 19 MPs on their side.

Explaining his arithmetic, Saifuddin said the 19 were the 16 signatories of the letter, plus Hamzah, Wan Saiful, and Wan Fayhsal.

As for the additional potential support, he implied this may include two Bersatu vice-presidents, Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin and Beluran MP Ronald Kiandee.

Terengganu Bersatu today released a statement voicing support for Muhyiddin, calling for the party leadership lineup to be maintained until 2027.

"We call on the party leaders and members to focus on strengthening the party's struggle for the people, defending the country's sovereignty, and strengthening Islam as the religion of the federation," Terengganu Bersatu secretary Badrolhisham Shafie said.
