BN clashes with PKR in Karamunting, Star takes on GRS in 17 seats

BN has named a candidate for Karamunting, setting up a clash with its ally PKR.

Meanwhile, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) is challenging its former coalition, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), in 17 seats.

In a statement today, BN named four additional candidates for Bandau, Kemabong, Karamunting, and Kukusan. 

PKR is fielding Karamunting incumbent George Hiew, who defected to the party from GRS in conjunction with the state election.

Meanwhile, BN has named the constituency’s MCA coordinator, Chin Kim Hiung, as a candidate.

This is the first instance of potential seat clashes among allies in Sabah since parties began naming candidates.

Star takes the fight to GRS

Separately, Star unveiled 40 candidates for the election today.

Star had split from GRS last month over disagreements with the coalition cooperating too closely with peninsula-based Pakatan Harapan.

GRS had earlier said it was fielding a candidate against Star president Jeffrey Kitingan.

Besides the 17 seats that it will clash with GRS, Star is also fielding six candidates against PKR and two candidates against DAP.

This includes in Sindumin, where PKR is fielding Sabah governor Musa Aman’s son, Yamani Hafez.
