Source claims MIC told to zip lips on 'quit' decision until after Sabah polls
The BN leadership has reportedly asked MIC to postpone any decision regarding the party’s future in the coalition until after the Sabah election on Nov 29.
A BN insider told Malaysiakini that leaders from both BN and Pakatan Harapan are concerned that MIC’s move to leave BN could affect their performance in the state polls.

A BN insider told Malaysiakini that leaders from both BN and Pakatan Harapan are concerned that MIC’s move to leave BN could affect their performance in the state polls.
“Several senior BN leaders have asked MIC not to make any major announcements this month.
“They are worried that such a move would signal a split within the unity government, especially with the Sabah state election coming up,” the source said.
MIC was expected to announce its decision after its annual general assembly on Nov 16.
This follows the party’s assessment of the possibility of leaving BN due to dissatisfaction with its position in national politics, particularly after Umno, under Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s leadership, formed an alliance with Harapan.
One of MIC’s main concerns is the allocation of election seats, which heavily favours incumbent parties.
Under the seat-sharing formula between BN and Harapan, MCA and MIC are expected to contest only a small number of seats in the next general election, as MCA holds just two parliamentary seats, while MIC has one.
Push to leave
In recent years, MIC’s annual general assembly meetings in several states - including Kedah, Penang, and the Federal Territories - approved motions for the party to leave BN.
However, MIC deputy president M Saravanan emphasised that such a decision is not solely in the hands of the top leadership but will be determined by the general assembly delegates.
The source said that MIC so far has not made a final decision.
“MIC has not given any feedback. I was told that MIC is waiting for a meeting with Prime Minister (Anwar Ibrahim).
“There might be a decision after meeting Anwar,” he added.
