A PAS leader has lodged a police report over claims that businessperson Albert Tei had channelled funds to Shamsul Iskandar Akin.

In the report filed at the Tawau police station, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

“Although Shamsul has resigned as the prime minister’s political secretary, that does not absolve him of responsibility.

“He must be investigated, and the investigation must be conducted fairly,” Free Malaysia Today reported him as saying today.

On Nov 25, Tei implicated Shamsul in the mining scandal, alleging that he spent RM629,000 on the latter after being purportedly assured that he could recoup the money channelled to politicians in Sabah.

According to Tei, he has compiled a dossier exceeding 300 pages, including screenshots of WhatsApp conversations and receipts, to substantiate his claims against the Malacca PKR chief.

Among other things, he claimed to have paid for renovations, appliances, and furnishings for two properties - one in Bangsar and an official residence in Putrajaya.

The list allegedly includes leather furniture, dining tables, home theatre systems, washing machines, a clothes dryer, and a massage chair.

A day later, Shamsul quit as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s senior political secretary and lodged a police report against Tei, accusing the latter of being part of a conspiracy to tarnish the premier’s name.

‘Major blow’ to govt’s anti-graft efforts

Fadhli further said that PAS members and several NGOs are planning to lodge more police reports on the matter, with several already filed in Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan.

PAS Youth information chief Khairul Nadzir Helmi Azhar, meanwhile, described the allegations as a major blow to the government’s anti-corruption efforts.

“When a senior political aide is implicated, it reflects on the prime minister. This undermines the prime minister’s anti-corruption and reform initiatives and smears his image,” Khairul said.
