The flood situation in Pahang is worsening with almost 12,000 displaced as of 8.30pm - accounting for almost 90 percent of current flood victims nationwide.

Kuantan is the worst hit, with over 9,700 people relocated to flood relief shelters.

Earlier today, a prison warden was found dead in Kuantan in a home that was flooded.

Nationwide, over 13,400 people are currently affected by floods.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in a social media post, expressed concern over the situation and prayed that it would be resolved soon.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the cabinet will discuss a proposal to increase disaster relief payouts to families, which currently stands at RM1,000 per household.

He added that payment will also be fast-tracked, with families receiving the aid before they leave flood relief centres instead of three days after as before.
