An opposition party today revealed that a leader from its Kota Raja division in Klang had been threatened by those claiming to be from MIC.

The division’s deputy MS Rajoo was also warned to stop all PKR activities in the area.

Relating the incident, Rajoo said he received a call on his mobile phone just after midnight on Dec 25, 2007, from someone who claimed to be the “right-hand man” of MIC Youth chief S Vigneswaran.

He said the caller, who did not identify himself, verbally abused him and threatened to hurt him and his family.

Speaking at a press conference at the PKR headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Rajoo said he lodged a police report with the Klang district police station the next day.

Use right channels

PKR deputy secretary-general Xavier Jayakumar, who was present at the press conference, said the warning against Rajoo could be related to the activities of party leaders and workers in Kota Raja.

“We have been well-received (in Kota Raja). We hope that Umno and MIC would use the right channels in the political arena to obtain more support. Let’s not resort to threats or attacks,” he said.

Early last year, Jayakumar’s house in Taman Klang Jaya was splashed with white paint. A month before this, PKR vice-president Mohd Azmin Ali was attacked by four men outside his house in Ampang.

Vigneswaran could not be reached for comment.
