Chin maintains silence more than a week after 'PKR MP' supposed to return RM9.5m

Businessperson Victor Chin remains silent for more than a week after a deadline for a purported PKR MP to return RM9.5 million allegedly taken as a service fee to cease attacks from the "corporate mafia".

Chin (above) had previously threatened to reveal the MP's identity if payment was not made on March 30.

Malaysiakini attempted to follow up on its queries from last week with Chin yesterday, but has not received a reply as of writing.

Previously, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli had implied that the MP was Human Resources Minister R Ramanan - a charge the latter vigorously denied.

In a podcast days before the deadline, Rafizi claimed he had received information that Ramanan had sent a lawyer to meet with Chin's representatives to settle the amount allegedly owed.

When met at an event on Thursday, Ramanan refused to entertain a question from Malaysiakini on Rafizi's allegations.

"I don't want to answer. You write this down, I don't answer to blogs," the PKR vice-president said in response.

Detailed chronology

Previously, Chin had, in a 40-page document detailing the chronology of events, claimed the unnamed lawmaker asked him to arrange RM10 million in cash to resolve the problem by speaking to the “corporate mafia”.

"I managed to arrange RM9.5 million initially, but the remaining RM500,000 was never passed to him, as this MP did not resolve the matter. None of the money was ever passed to the corporate mafia gang.

"I am issuing a message to this MP: please return the RM9.5 million before March 30, or I shall expose your identity," he had said.

According to the businessperson, the funds were transferred to the lawmaker on Oct 18 last year.
