Crime 

• Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in Penang to facilitate an investigation into a Facebook post that insulted Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

  This is believed to be linked to an edited image showing the Selangor ruler in swimwear, amid backlash over the Rain Rave Festival. The ruler has not made any public remarks about the three-day party.

  

  According to Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director M Kumar, the suspect was arrested at 7.10pm yesterday and is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 504 of the Penal Code (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (improper use of network facilities).

  “The raiding party also seized two handphones and SIM cards that are believed to have been used in uploading the post,” he said in a statement.

  Kumar added that police have received 12 reports on the incident so far, and investigators will apply for a remand order against the suspect today.
