• Tenaga Nasional Berhad expressed its sympathies to those affected by the fatal 2013 Bertam Valley floods, after it was ordered by the Seremban High Court to pay RM4.7 million in damages to 100 Cameron Highlands residents.

  In a statement yesterday, TNB said its sympathies are with individuals and families who have gone through a long and challenging period during the legal proceedings.

  It also assured that it remains committed to operating responsibly in accordance with the law, while continuing to strengthen safety, monitoring and emergency response measures.

SMEs

• The Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Association of Malaysia cautioned that the “intervention window” to implement policy action aimed at mitigating deeper economic consequences to the sector is narrowing.

  Its president, Chin Chee Seong, highlighted that a nationwide survey conducted last month showed 76 percent of SMEs “significantly affected” by rising fuel and energy-related costs.

  

  With no sector reporting zero impact, Chin added that 45 percent of SMEs anticipate serious cash flow challenges within the next three to six months.

  He said that if left unaddressed, current conditions could risk triggering a broad-based contraction across SME sectors, with spillover effects on employment and domestic demand.
