PKR fiasco

• Several university branches of Mahasiswa Keadilan Malaysia (MKM) publicly distanced themselves from a recent statement issued by the movement’s central leadership, which claimed a loss of confidence in PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

  In a joint statement released late last night, student leaders from multiple universities said the central leadership released its statement without consulting or involving them.

  Describing the move as regrettable, they said decisions made unilaterally without a collective mandate contradicted the democratic principles upheld within the movement.

  

  They also reaffirmed their support for Anwar, stressing that the party’s reform agenda continues to progress under his leadership, adding that any attempt to create divisions among student members within the party would be counterproductive.

  In the Instagram statement, the university branches further announced that they would not participate in a press conference scheduled for today, believed to be linked to the controversy surrounding yesterday's statement by the MKM leadership.

Johor politics

• MCA Youth has accused DAP deputy chairperson Nga Kor Ming of practising double standards after he criticised Johor’s move to allow the appointment of five nominated state assemblypersons.

  In a statement, MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong said similar systems already existed in several states, including Pahang, Sabah and Terengganu, without any objections from DAP.

  

  He noted that DAP, despite being part of the state governments in Sabah and Pahang since 2023, had never previously criticised the move.

  Neow also pointed out that when the Pahang state assembly approved the appointment of five nominated assemblypersons in 2024, several DAP assemblypersons had voted in support of the motion.

  Among those appointed, he said, were Pahang Amanah chairperson Fadzli Ramly and state PKR chief Rizal Jamin.

GE16 preparations

• Wangsa Maju Amanah division has established 10 new branches as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots machinery ahead of the next general election.

  In a statement today, the party said the new branches were formed through active participation from young members, reflecting ongoing efforts to expand youth involvement in a more progressive and competitive political landscape.

  The initiative, the party added, was led by Federal Territories Amanah Youth chief Faris Arriffin.

  

  Meanwhile, Faris said the move is part of a broader strategy to reinforce Amanah’s organisational strength in the federal territories and ensure its election machinery is fully prepared for the next polls.

  He also said the youth wing would continue playing a key role in mobilising grassroots operations to defend Pakatan Harapan seats.
