Police probing claims Jho Low was in country last year

The police will take appropriate action to verify claims that fugitive businessperson Low Taek Jho was in the country at the end of last year.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail said police had yet to confirm the authenticity of the allegations.

“We have not been able to verify the extent of the authenticity. Appropriate action will be taken to determine whether the matter is true or otherwise.

“Investigations are still ongoing, and it is our responsibility to ensure the process is carried out properly and smoothly,” he told reporters at the Autism Day celebration organised by the Pengaman-PDRM Autism Centre at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol) today.

He was commenting on a Sarawak Report article alleging that Low attended a secret meeting in Malaysia with a delegation from China at the end of last year.

Khalid said the police will issue an official statement should there be any new developments regarding the matter.

Earlier, he spent time with children from the Pengaman-PDRM Autism Centre, which provides educational facilities and support for police personnel and the local community.

He said the centre, which caters to about 50 children, receives full support from the police through the provision of facilities and welfare fund assistance to help ease the financial burden of affected families.

Committee chairperson Hussin Ismail said the centre had grown rapidly since its establishment in 2020 with support from various parties.
