• MACC chief commissioner Abdul Halim Aman’s recent confirmation that the probe into the Arm Holdings deal is still ongoing has reignited scrutiny over remarks previously made by his predecessor, Azam Baki.

  In a statement last night, Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan said Azam’s earlier assertion that the MACC would recommend charges against two individuals was premature as investigations had not yet been completed.

  Syahredzan added that the change in leadership at the MACC should mark the beginning of efforts to rebuild public confidence and credibility, describing Halim’s open acknowledgement that investigations are ongoing as a positive first step.

MCMC

• The MCMC has issued a statutory demand against TikTok for failing to block and remove offensive content directed at the royalty.

  In a statement yesterday, the commission said that despite prior engagement and notification regarding the spread of online content linked to an account purportedly associated with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, TikTok’s response had been “unsatisfactory”.

  

  Such content allegedly contained offensive and false remarks, as well as AI-generated videos and manipulated images, which may constitute offences under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and other criminal laws, the MCMC added.

  It said the statutory demand will require the social media platform to implement immediate corrective measures as well as issue an official explanation for its failure in addressing harmful content.

Public holiday

• An estimated 1.9 million vehicles are expected to enter and pass through Penang as people return to their hometowns and go on holiday for the festive season and the long holiday period between May 27 and June 2.

  

  Bernama reported Penang police chief Azizee Ismail as saying in a statement last night that this prompted the state police contingent to intensify traffic monitoring and enforcement operations throughout the state.
