• Perak PKR chief Hairul Amir Sabri has expressed hope that party president Anwar Ibrahim would defend his Tambun seat in the next general election.

  He said Anwar’s presence will be crucial in helping the party strengthen support and win more seats in the state, according to The Star.

  He also dismissed speculation that Anwar will not be defending the seat, which the party’s own analysis deemed “marginal”.

  “At this stage, it is still too early to determine anything, as based on our experience with Anwar, decisions are usually made only two or three months before the election,” Hairul reportedly told the media in Meru last night.

  

• Penang Pakatan Harapan has set up three new committees in preparation for the 16th general election, Bernama reported.

  Its chairperson Chow Kon Yeow said the three committees are the Election Manifesto Committee led by Zairil Khir Johari from DAP, the Information Committee headed by Lee Boon Heng (PKR) and the Mobilisation Committee chaired by Zahar Zainul (Amanah).

  The committees were established at yesterday’s Penang Harapan annual general meeting, which also decided to maintain him as chairperson of the state leadership council.

  Meanwhile, Penang PKR chief Mohamad Abdul Hamid is replacing Nurul Izzah Anwar as the state Harapan deputy chairperson, and Penang PKR deputy chairperson Goh Choon Aik will replace Mohamad as a vice-chairperson.

• Johor has declared tomorrow a special state holiday after the state football team Johor Darul Ta'zim FC won the Malaysia Cup last night.

  The Southern Tigers beat Kuching City FC 2-0 in the final match at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

  “The win is a gift for Bangsa Johor and the fans who have stood united behind the team through thick and thin, in every match and season,” Bernama quoted Johor Menteri Besar Hafiz Ghazi as saying in announcing the holiday.
