Religious affairs

  • Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung has urged the Selangor government to explain how the State Planning Guidelines and Standards for Community Facilities were approved, apparently without input from the Selangor Special Committee on Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Taoism (Limas).

He noted that the preface of the document says the state executive council had approved the guidelines twice last year, on Nov 7 and 12, for implementation for all local governments, state and federal agencies, developers, and others.

However, Limas will only be engaging with religious associations in June.

Lee said the government must show this was not a mere afterthought by acknowledging the misstep and implementing clear requirements that all future town and local planning engagements must include Limas and other stakeholders from the outset.

He also urged for the document to be made freely available to the public in the spirit of freedom of information, rather than being sold for RM300 per copy.

Politics

  • Selangor PKR elections director Yaakob Sapari has urged party members not to be easily “charmed” by former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, and to think it through before joining Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama).

He said that while many are swayed by Rafizi’s rhetoric, politicians who hold office in the party and in government should be judged by their work.

He claimed that Rafizi had never attended Selangor PKR leadership council meetings, even though he is a member of the council, by virtue of his position as the then Pandan division chief.

He said Rafizi also never called for meetings with the election machinery in Selangor, despite being the deputy president and the election director at the central level.

“I have written letters to arrange to meet him, but in the end, we couldn’t meet,” he added.

Crime

  • The Terengganu Education Department said a teacher in Setiu has been transferred to the district education department.

This is pending an investigation by the Education Ministry’s integrity unit into allegations of sexual misconduct, which have gone viral on social media.

“The public with information on any sexual misconduct cases is urged to channel it to the department,” it said in a statement.
