N Sembilan Harapan reps meet at MB's residence, fuel snap election talks

Several vehicles belonging to Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan state assemblypersons were seen entering the official residence of Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun in Seremban today, fuelling speculation over a possible snap state election.

Bernama reported that the lawmakers arrived at around 9.30am, purportedly to discuss the latest developments in the state.

Meanwhile, the menteri besar’s press secretary, Ahmad Shahir Shah, reportedly said that no press conference had been scheduled in relation to the meeting.

He was also quoted as saying that Aminuddin is scheduled to have an audience with Negeri Sembilan ruler, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, tomorrow as part of his weekly routine ahead of the state executive council meeting.

On May 16, Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that BN will go solo in the state election and contest all 56 state assembly seats.

He said the decision was made after a discussion with the party’s top leadership and considering the aspirations of the Johor people.

A day later, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said Harapan will respond to the dissolution of the Johor state assembly with a similar move in Negeri Sembilan.

“I would like to suggest to the esteemed chairperson, if they want to contest 56 seats in Johor, we will contest 36 seats in Negeri Sembilan,” the Seremban MP said in his speech during the Harapan convention at the Johor Persada International Convention Centre.

Yesterday, Onn dissolved the Johor legislative assembly after receiving consent from the state regent, paving the way for the 16th state election.

The Election Commission is expected to announce the nomination, early voting, and polling dates in the coming days.

BN won 40 state seats in the 2022 Johor polls, securing a two-thirds majority that allowed it to form a state government without Harapan, its ally in the federal government.
