Tsunami warning sirens have been activated along coastal areas in Tawau, Semporna, Kunak and Lahad Datu as a precautionary measure following a powerful 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao, the Philippines, this morning.

Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Arthur Joseph Kurup said the government, through the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and relevant security agencies, is closely monitoring the situation.
