• Chong Zhemin (Harapan-Kampar) has urged the Transport Ministry to legitimise the use of micromobility vehicles on town roads instead of totally banning the device.

  Chong (above) argued that many, including the poor and people with disabilities, depend on such vehicles in their daily life.

  He said the ban has reduced the micromobility vehicles to expensive toys for the wealthy, as they are confined to recreational areas.

  "I hope that the transport minister can use his discretion. Because the Act provides the minister with discretionary power, where he can allow (any vehicle) to be used on the road," Chong said when debating the Road Transport Act (Amendment) Bill.

Fuel subsidies

• Jimmy Puah (Harapan-Tebrau) suggested that Singapore-registered vehicles caught purchasing subsidised fuel in Malaysia be barred from entering the country.

  The government lawmaker said the issue of foreign-registered cars pumping RON95 petrol has been prevalent despite the government’s clear warnings.

  

  "...we need to take a firm stance so that people understand. If we keep merely imposing fines on them, I do not think that is enough.

  "I am not saying they should automatically be barred from entering Malaysia, but if they do it once and then repeat the offence a second time, I think the authorities - specifically the Road Transport Department - should be given the power to restrict these vehicles from entering, perhaps for one or two years," Puah said when debating the Road Transport Act (Amendment) Bill.
