Orang Asli rights

• Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has promised to raise the plight of Orang Asli villagers from Kampung Sungai Cot, Pahang, with the state authorities responsible for native land rights matters.

  In a Facebook post last night, Anwar said he spoke via a phone call with a representative from the village, who was earlier present at his personal residence.

  “I listened to the problems they are facing regarding a land dispute, as well as the detention of three Orang Asli residents from their village.

  “Alhamdulillah, I was informed that those who were previously detained have been released by the police,” said Anwar, who also warned parties against “manipulating” the issue.

  Association for the Protection of the Natural Heritage of Malaysia (Peka) president Rajesh Nagarajan yesterday said the villagers’ representative, Juliana, has attempted to meet with Anwar personally as a final resort to resolve issues of purported native land rights encroachments.

KWAP losses

• Retirement Fund (Incorporated) (KWAP) will continue to pursue all available avenues to maximise the recovery of losses from its nearly RM200 million investment in Indonesian aquaculture start-up eFishery.

  Bernama reported that KWAP has also enhanced post-investment monitoring and implemented closer oversight of material developments involving portfolio companies.

  

  KWAP has further strengthened its approach to private markets investing, with measures including greater portfolio diversification and investing alongside experienced fund managers and strategic partners.

  In a written parliamentary reply to Subang MP Wong Chen on Thursday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said KWAP’s losses stemmed from a “planned fraud”, with the company’s management allegedly manipulating its financial statements.

  Anwar said the investment had gone through KWAP’s established governance process before approval.

• Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s crowdfunding initiative has exceeded the initial RM200,000 target, with the parliamentarian successfully raising RM361,848 over two days.

  

  In a social media post today, Syed Saddiq expressed his gratitude to those who have supported his 170km "Gratitude Run” from Putrajaya to Muar as part of efforts to raise funds for his constituency and celebrate his recent apex court victory.
