• An Orang Asli mother and daughter have started a protest walk from Maran, Pahang, today to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in Putrajaya to demand immediate intervention from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim regarding the systemic loss of her community’s ancestral territories (“tanah adat and tanah rayau”).

  Lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan said that 34-year-old Juliana and her seven-year-old daughter Yasmina's walk comes in the wake of a massive, unresolved land dispute in Maran.

  

  In the dispute, critical foraging grounds historically relied upon by over 1,000 Orang Asli residents were allegedly alienated to a private developer, before recently being converted into a private plantation.

  "Weeks ago, more than 2,000 of our people travelled to the deputy prime minister’s office in Putrajaya to stage a peaceful protest and submit our grievances. We were met with absolute silence," Juliana said in a statement.

Politics

• Malacca Pakatan Harapan said the decision by DAP assemblypersons to quit the state government after rejecting the proposed amendment to the state's constitution to allow for appointed assembly members was in line with democratic principles.

  In a statement, the state coalition said that any exco or assemblyperson who no longer supported a government motion in the state legislature should no longer be entitled to receive the privileges and facilities provided by the state government.

  

  They also announced that Harapan-appointed local councillors and Village Development and Security Committee members would resign from their positions effective July 31.

  The statement was signed by Malacca Harapan chairperson Adly Zahari, acting state PKR chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim, Malacca DAP chairperson Khoo Poay Tiong and state Amanah chairperson Ashraf Mukhlis Minghat.

KWAP

• The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will decide whether to open an inquiry into the Retirement Fund’s (Incorporated) (KWAP) investment in Indonesian start-up eFishery, following allegations of organised fraud involving the company.

  PAC chairperson Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the issue has yet to be included in the committee's agenda, Bernama reported.

  

  Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said KWAP’s losses from its nearly RM200 million investment in Indonesian aquaculture start-up eFishery were a result of "planned fraud", alleging that the company's management had manipulated its financial statements.
