Anwar confident cabinet will approve release of Tabung Haji RCI report

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is confident the cabinet will approve a proposal to make public the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji after it is tabled for consideration at Wednesday's cabinet meeting.

Anwar said he had no objection to releasing the report but stressed that the decision must follow due process through cabinet deliberation.

“People have asked why the RCI report on TH has not been made public. I have no objection, and I agree that it should be released, but it must follow the proper process. I will table the matter to the cabinet on Wednesday, and I believe the cabinet will agree.

“We previously deferred the report because Tabung Haji said it needed time to make improvements.

“There is now a new management team in place to carry out those reforms, and we are ready to make the report public,” he said at the opening ceremony of the National Training Week 2026 finale at Universiti Teknologi Mara in Permatang Pauh today.

Also present were Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Human Resources Minister R Ramanan.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, said the government had deferred the release of the report previously to avoid undermining public confidence in Tabung Haji.

However, he said the situation had since changed, with the institution successfully restored and earning international recognition.

“Last week, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud sent me a message saying that Tabung Haji had received an award for the best management among haj organisations worldwide,” he said.

Anwar said the achievement demonstrated that national institutions could be restored through good governance and integrity, while rebuilding public confidence.

The prime minister had previously said the government was prepared to make public the final RCI report on Tabung Haji soon to enable the public to learn the findings of the inquiry into allegations involving the sale of the agency's strategic assets.

Earlier, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan said the proposal to release the final report would be discussed at the Cabinet meeting following confusion and allegations over the sale of Tabung Haji's strategic assets by the former Treasury secretary-general.
