Negeri Sembilan polls

• The Election Commission recorded a voter turnout of 37.29 percent, with 320,627 of the 859,760 registered voters casting their ballots as of midday.

  The three constituencies with the highest turnout were N15 Juasseh (43.5 percent), N01 Chennah (43.4 percent), and N17 Senaling (42.8 percent).

  The lowest turnout was recorded in N23 Mambau (32.7 percent), N11 Lobak (32.4 percent), and N30 Lukut (32.1 percent).

• IDE Research Centre’s hour-by-hour analysis of EC turnout figures projected an overall turnout of 74-77 percent.

  The estimate is higher than the 68.35 percent turnout recorded in the 15th Negeri Sembilan state election in 2023, when 838,200 voters were registered.

  IDE also noted that turnout was tracking higher per hour compared to the 2023 polls, attributing the trend to favourable weather conditions and the return of out-of-state voters.

Commonwealth Games

• Youth and Sports Minister Dr Taufiq Johari said Malaysia’s success in exceeding its five-gold-medal target at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, which concludes tomorrow, reflects the strength of the country’s sporting ecosystem.

  He attributed the achievement to close cooperation between the ministry, the National Sports Council, the National Sports Institute, the Olympic Council of Malaysia, the Paralympic Council of Malaysia, national sports associations, and other stakeholders.

  

  “Together with the entire Youth and Sports Ministry, I extend my highest congratulations to the Malaysian contingent for its proud achievement at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

  “This success was born from the dedication, discipline, fighting spirit, and extraordinary sacrifices of the athletes, coaches, and all members of the contingent in bringing honour to the country,” he said, according to Bernama.

  As of today, Malaysia has won seven gold, three silver, and three bronze medals, surpassing its initial target of five gold, two silver, and four bronze medals.

• Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulated track cycling star Azizulhasni Awang after the 38-year-old ended Malaysia’s 16-year wait for a men’s keirin gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

  “The success is a result of dedication, perseverance, and an unwavering fighting spirit, which in turn brings glory to Malaysia on the international stage and serves as inspiration to the entire nation,” he said.

  

  The victory at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome was the highlight of Malaysia’s campaign of the day, with Azizulhasni clinching his first Commonwealth Games gold medal in his final appearance at the multi-sport event.

Sabah special grant

• The remaining RM900 million from Sabah’s 40 percent special grant is expected to be discussed at a Malaysia Agreement 1963 meeting on Monday, as the state government pushes for full payment this year.

  Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II Masidi Manjun said negotiations with the federal government are ongoing over the balance of the RM1.5 billion special grant announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

  

  “The state and federal governments are actively negotiating to ensure that the allocation can be paid this year, and we believe it will be paid this year,” he said after launching the Sabah Day National Month and Flag-Waving Campaign 2026 in Kota Kinabalu, according to Bernama.

  Sabah received an interim RM600 million payment on June 12 last year, while the state assembly was informed on July 20 that the government had requested the remaining RM900 million be fully disbursed this year.
