Negeri Sembilan polls

• The Election Commission recorded a voter turnout of 18.22 percent, with 156,678 of the 859,760 registered voters casting their ballots as of 10am.

  The three constituencies with the highest turnout were N04 Klawang (21.5 percent), N16 Seri Menanti (21.4 percent) and N01 Chennah (21.1 percent).

  The lowest turnout was recorded in N29 Chuah (16.7 percent), N34 Gemas (16.3 percent), and N30 Lukut (15.7 percent).

• Coalition leaders and candidates were among the early voters as polling stations opened at 8am.

  Foreign Minister Mohamad Hassan, the six-term incumbent and BN candidate for Rantau, cast his ballot at SJKC Chung Hua, Rantau, at 8.50am.

  Negeri Sembilan PKR chief Aminuddin Harun, who is contesting Linggi for Harapan, voted at Institut Perguruan Raja Melewar in Sikamat at 8.59am.

  Negeri Sembilan Umno chief Jalaluddin Alias (above), who is defending Pertang against two challengers, cast his vote at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Putra, Simpang Durian, Jelebu, at 9.28am.

  According to Berita Harian, Jalaluddin was accompanied by his wife Maziah Nor, who also voted, with the couple marking their 39th anniversary today.

Rocky the dog

• Police have opened an investigation into the death of a dog during a stray dog capture operation in Taman Teluk Gedung Indah, Port Klang, Selangor, on July 29, following allegations of animal cruelty.

  South Klang police chief Lim Jit Huey, as quoted by Bernama, said the dog Rocky was confirmed dead after the incident, and its carcass had been sent to the Selangor Veterinary Department for a post-mortem.

  

  “The police confirm the incident, footage of which is currently circulating on social media, showing a group of men tying up and dragging a dog while a woman pleaded with them to release the animal,” he said.

  The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code.

  The Royal Klang City Council said the operation was carried out after residents raised safety concerns over the growing stray dog population.

• BN Youth communications director Neow Choo Seong cited reports that Rocky was a pet with an owner, urging police to verify the claim.

  Neow, who also called for confirmation over allegations of public involvement in the operation, described the conduct that allegedly led to Rocky’s death as “vigilantism”.

  The MCA Youth information chief said those responsible should face prosecution under the Animal Welfare Act 2015, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, three years’ imprisonment, or both.
