Passing of ex-CJ

• Former chief justice Eusoff Chin died today at the age of 91.

  Eusoff served as Malaysia’s second chief justice from September 1994 until December 2000.

  Former Malaysian Bar president Ezri Abdul Wahab, who confirmed Eusoff’s passing, said the latter’s daughter, Zuliana, had announced that her father passed away at 1am today.

  Funeral prayers will be held at Masjid Al-Hidayah in Kelana Jaya, before his remains are buried at the Muslim cemetery in Section 9, Kota Damansara, reports Bernama.

Workers union

• The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) will remain operational for now after the Shah Alam High Court halted the Registrar of Societies’ move to dissolve the union provisionally.

  Free Malaysia Today reported that judge Evawani Farisyta Mohammad allowed MTUC to proceed with its judicial review challenge against the ROS decision issued in May, and granted a stay on the dissolution order until the legal challenge is resolved.

  

  The judge reportedly said it was important for MTUC to continue its role in representing workers. The suspension would also allow the union to settle payments for the auditors preparing the financial reports requested by the ROS.

  The ROS had moved to provisionally dissolve MTUC on May 7, alleging that the union had failed to provide documents, which included audited financial statements and information relating to foreign funding.

  MTUC, however, reportedly disputed the action, saying it had provided seven of the nine requested document categories and had asked for additional time to submit the outstanding reports.
