Unions

  • The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has been ordered to be disbanded temporarily after failing to comply with a request for documents by the Registrar of Societies, according to Sinar Harian.

    Citing a letter by the ROS, the report said the ROS requested a slew of documents from 2020 to 2025 on April 6, and gave the MTUC 30 days to comply.

    However, it reportedly failed to submit copies of documents related to audited statements of receipts, payments, and balance sheets. In addition, the MTUC reportedly failed to submit copies of financial descriptions regarding any money, property, benefits, or profits received from outside Malaysia.

    The letter also informed that the MTUC has 30 days to appeal to the home minister. If it fails, the temporary order will become final and the MTUC will be considered an illegal society.

Pig farming

  • Selangor Umno has lauded Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s decree calling for all parties to stop discussing the continuation of pig farming in the state

    Its information chief Zaidi Zain said the sultan has given a detailed explanation and proposed that non-Muslims can obtain pork through imports from other states, which shows that the sultan’s position is carefully considered and not motivated by political or emotional sentiments.

    “Ironically, those who have long been outspoken about respecting institutions and defending the constitutional monarchy now seem to have difficulties accepting the official stance of a state institution when it does not align with their political agenda,” he added.

    Zaidi did not name whom he was referring to, but is likely to be alluding to DAP’s Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Wong Siew Ki, who drew criticism after urging the Selangor government to reconsider its stance on pig farming by adopting modern, cleaner, farming methods.

Crime

  • Despite denials, the Malacca PAS Youth have lodged police reports against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s former aide Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak over allegations made in a video that surfaced last month.

    It said a mere denial is insufficient, and those mentioned in the video must come forward with explanations, it said in a statement on Facebook.

    The police reports were lodged by Malacca PAS Youth’s new media department director Zulhilmi Aziz Abdul Hannan and information chief Anas Abdullah at the Bukit Baru police station.

    Farhash had denied wrongdoing and said he lodged a police report and instructed lawyers to take action against those allegedly slandering him.

MyKad

  • The revamped MyKad design to be launched next month will feature 53 security features, compared to 23 in the current version.

    However, the new design will not have the Touch ‘n Go feature used in the current MyKad.

    Bernama quoted National Registration Department director-general Badrul Hisham Alias saying the upgraded security features include laser engraving, ultraviolet elements, holograms, guilloche patterns, microtext, QR codes for enforcement purposes, and a chip with enhanced encryption technology.

    Also to be launched next month are new MyPoCA cards for those subject to restrictions under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959, and MyTentera cards for military personnel.
