Lembah Pantai independent candidate N Periasamy, who lost in the recent elections, plans to file an election petition after the results are gazetted.

unif pc 250308 periasamy Periasamy, who was clearly unhappy with the way he was portrayed in some of PKR's ceramah, said he was misrepresented and that led to his paltry return of 489 votes.

"If not for this, I could have won some 10,000 votes," said the 48-year-old businessman.

"During their ceramah, they told the crowd that I am a Barisan Nasional (BN) proxy and that I wasn't even a Hindraf (Hindu Rights Action Force )member," he complained.

"But how could I be a BN proxy when I'm clearly an opposition candidate," he said at the sidelines of the launch of the United National Independent Front at Kelana Jaya today.

He said PKR's claim that he wasn't a Hindraf member was equally misplaced.

"Since Hindraf isn't even a registered society, how could I be a member?" he asked.

Speaking for all ISA detainees

Previously, Malaysiakini reported that Periasamy rejected claims that he is a supporter of Hindraf or its five leaders who were detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) last December.

Periasamy said he is speaking up for the rights of all ISA detainees.

Apart from PKR candidate Nurul Izzah Anwar, Periasamy alleged that he was also slandered by MalaysiaToday.net editor Raja Petra Kamarudin and PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

During the elections on March 8, Periasamy only picked up 489 votes in Lembah Pantai. Nurul Izzah won the seat with 21,728 votes while Umno incumbent Shahrizat Abdul Jalil collected 18,833 votes.

A father of two, Periasamy was a MIC member from 1986 up to 2002 when he resigned as Bukit Bintang division deputy chairperson.

He quit due to restrictions and limitations he faced when trying to voice dissenting views.
