“It is exactly three months since the March 8 general elections, therefore the party has given top priority to the establishing of its own headquarters,” said senior PKR leader.
Presently PKR operates from two modest offices - one in Brickfields and the other in Section 16, Petaling Jaya.
The party will also hold its 69th supreme council meeting - its highest-decision making body - on the same day after the relocation of offices.
PKR, which was founded in 1999 at the height of the reformasi period by supporters of then arrested former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim, is led by his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
“We are on a fast-track to to institutionalise our presence. This new headquarters is expected to effectively assist our elected representatives, to improve on their delivery system to their constituents in fulfilling their responsibilities to the people,” said the PKR leader.
PKR has made major inroads in the recent elections, winning 31 parliamentary seats - a remarkable feat when it had only one seat previously. The party is part of the Pakatan Rakyat which in charge of five state governments.
Modern facilities
The new headquarters has a combined office space of some 20,000 sq ft covering two shoplots.
It is equipped with modern office facilities cum conference rooms for its top party officials and up-to-date information technology facilities.
There will be departments for logistics, administration, membership/registration and research/policy, together with administrative offices.
Its Pemuda and Wanita wings will have their own separate sections within the headquarters.
PKR intends to upgrade its logistics and communications, especially for its website and to publish of its own publications.
Anwar will also hold his first press conference at the spanking new building on Sunday.
