Sabah Progressive Party will answer the show cause issued to them by Barisan Nasional supreme council as the deadline expires tomorrow.

After its supreme council meeting this evening, Sapp leaders told reporters that it intends to submit its reply tomorrow.

richard yong sapp sec gen Nevertheless, according to secretary general Richard Yong, the party has no intentions of rescinding their earlier decision to back any motions of no-confidence against the prime minister.

Instead, Sapp said that the party wants the BN supreme council to examine the reason why the Sabah party has lost confidence in coalition chief Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

"We will reiterate the points we made in our earlier statements on why we have lost confidence in the prime minister," said Yong when contacted today.

"The question of backing down does not arise at this juncture. Instead, we urge them to find out why Sapp feels this way."

When asked if Sapp has been invited to the BN management committee meeting on Aug 6, Yong said they have not been informed yet.

"We heard rumours that there will be a meeting on Aug 6 but so far there has been no invitation yet," he added.

yong teck lee Meanwhile party president Yong Teck Lee said that the show cause letter would be sent via courier, just the way it was received.

"The contents of the reply will be to reiterate the reasons of the no-confidence vote on the prime minister, the eight-point declaration and that we maintain our stand.

"It is up to BN to take whatever action on us. Sapp is ready for any consequences," he was quoted as saying by Bernama after a meeting with party members and supporters in Kota Kinabalu.

Final decision

Earlier, BN secretary general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said that the coalition will make a final decision on the Sapp matter at its meeting on Aug 6.

The coalition can give a warning, suspend or sack the party, which also provides a deputy chief minister in Sabah.

Sapp was asked to show cause after it proposed to bring a motion of no-confidence against Prime Minister Abdullah in Parliament.

Despite being given a chance to retract its decision, the Sabah party's supreme council backed the proposal by Yong on June 20.

This incurred the wrath of the BN coalition, which after its supreme council meeting on June 26, slapped Sapp with a show cause letter.

Sapp was given 30 days to answer the letter, which was sent on June 30.
