Businessperson Albert Tei and former Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd (SMM) CEO Jontih Enggihon were each fined RM100,000 by the Kota Kinabalu High Court for contempt of court.

The decision was reportedly made by judicial commissioner Ratanah Devi Yusof Perumal, who found that the duo breached an ex parte and ad interim order issued by the court.

"I find that despite the clear terms of the ex parte and ad interim order, there was a clear breach of the terms of both court orders," she said, as quoted by Free Malaysia Today.

Perumal made the ruling on Sept 18. How the orders were breached was not specified.

In January last year, SMM filed a lawsuit against Tei and Jontih alleging “fraud, breach of fiduciary duties and confidentiality, tampering with official documents, conspiracy to injure by unlawful means, and potential collusion with third parties”.

SMM later filed an application to commence contempt proceedings against Tei for allegedly breaching a court order.
