N Sembilan crisis

• Embattled Negeri Sembilan ruler Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir’s decision to revoke the appointment of 10 state exco members is legal, said Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar.
  
  Dusuki (above) reportedly said this was because a state exco member holds the position at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
  
  "Based on Article 38(5) of the Negeri Sembilan constitution, a state exco, apart from the menteri besar, holds office for as long as he has the approval of the ruler," he said, as quoted by Sinar Harian.
  
  Article 38(5) reads: “Subject to Clause (4), a member of the executive council other than the menteri besar shall hold office at the ruler’s pleasure, unless the appointment of any member of the exco shall have been revoked by the ruler on the advice of the menteri besar but any member of the council may at any time resign his office.”

Student’s murder

• Police have classified the death of a Form 2 student at a sports school in Kuala Pilah as murder, according to Negeri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad.
  
  The Star reported Alzafny said a 16-year-old student has also been detained to assist in investigations.

  

  He reportedly said a preliminary probe has revealed that the incident happened at the school hostel around 8pm on Friday.
  
  "The victim was taken to the Kuala Pilah Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
  
  "We are probing the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said.

• Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has ordered an immediate safety audit at the Kuala Pilah sports school where a 14-year-old student died after being found unconscious at its hostel.
  
  She said the Education Ministry would cooperate fully with police and review the school’s safety measures and compliance with procedures.
  
  “I have instructed the Education inspectorate to immediately conduct an audit to identify any non-compliance,” she added.

Fadhlina (above), who visited the school and met the student’s family at the hospital today, said no one would be protected if the investigation found misconduct or breaches of the law.

The ministry has also arranged counselling and psychosocial support for the family and school community, she added.

Federal Constitution

• Founder of the “Musyawarah Nasional 3.0: Unpacking the Malay Peninsula Debate”, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, today mooted three proposals to foster understanding of the Federal Constitution.
  
  Bernama reported Zahid said the first was to strengthen understanding through history education; the second, to build a shared understanding of the country’s foundations despite differences in educational background; and the third, to examine the need for a specific legal framework to preserve national harmony.
  
  “At the same time, academic research, fact-based debate and legitimate criticism must continue to be protected. The pursuit of knowledge must flourish, and our life together must be safeguarded,” he was quoted as saying.

  

  Zahid also presented the acronym Akar, drawn from the Malay words for understanding origins through knowledge, grounding nationhood in the Constitution, managing differences with civility, and sharing a future as one people.
  
  “Guided by Akar, our deliberations must produce results. After unpacking the debate, we must build understanding. After the deliberations end, the work must continue,” he said.
