An articulate Perak Menteri Besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin revealed his combative streak and colourful vocabulary today by challenging Umno to a duel.

nizar pc 060208 01 "If Umno is jantan (a man) then battle it out with Pakatan Rakyat through elections," was his challenge.

" Tapi Umno dayus dan pondan sepenuh pondanya ," was his conclusion during a press conference at the menteri besar's official residence this evening.

' Pondan ' is the colloquial term for effeminate men while ' dayus ' can be loosely translated as a coward.

Mohammad Nizar also vowed to file a suit to seek a declaration that Dr Zambry Abd Kadir is not the legitimate menteri besar.

Zambry, who is the Pangkor assemblyperson, was sworn in as the 11th Perak menteri besar by Sultan Azlan Shah this afternoon.

Detractors have claimed that his appointment violated provisions in the Perak constitution as Mohammad Nizar has not resigned while the state assembly did not pass a vote of no-confidence

against him.

The suit against Zambry is being prepared by former Bar Council president Raja Aziz Addruse and would most likely be filled next Tuesday.

Mohammad Nizar however refuted suggestions that the suit was an indirect swipe at the sultan.

"I have absolutely no intentions of suing his royal highness," he said, claiming that the suit and his refusal to resign were aimed at ‘safeguarding’ the palace.

The Pakatan Rakyat leader said that he was trying his best to avoid the Sultan from being perceived as politically biased.

"What I am doing is trying to put the highest regard and respect to the royal institution," he said.

Regardless, his suit is bound to add to the political crisis in the state. His suit is one of four suits related to this crisis.

Nizar's 'last fortress'

Meanwhile, Mohammad Nizar said he will not move out of his official residence in Ipoh as he was the legitimate menteri besar and no eviction notice has been served.

"This is the only house I have for my wife and my (nine) children. Until they evict me, I won't budge. But they won't do that. They are civilised people, I hope," he said.

He said that Tajol was never given orders to vacate the premises.

The official residence was now the most important state property controlled by Mohammad Nizar and his supporters, after the police took over the state secretariat building.

The 'last fortress' is the centre of Pakatan's activities and a string of meetings are being held daily.

On the clash between Pakatan supporters and the police in Kuala Kangsar this afternoon, Mohammad Nizar said that Pakatan had no role in it.

"It is due to the wave of discontent of the people of Perak," he said.
