Malaysia said it would deliver some eight tons of relief to survivors of a massive landslide that left over 1,000 dead in the Philippines in February.

The relief goods will be flown by a Malaysian aircraft to the capital of Leyte province in the central Philippines on Monday, its embassy said.

Malaysia previously sent a rescue team to help in the search and recovery operations in the village of Guinsaugon, which was wiped off the map in February when a mountainside collapsed after two weeks of torrential rains.

Over 1,000 villagers were buried alive under a carpet of mud and debris.

Surviving villagers have been living in packed evacuation centers and officials said it would take years for the village to be rebuilt.
