Pakistani police said today they had arrested two Malaysians for credit card fraud and were investigating whether they have links to cyber-crime and international terrorist organisations.

Malaysian nationals Woei-Jye Chong and Hui-Kee Chia were detained while trying to use tampered credit cards at a jewellers shop in the southern port city of Karachi, police said.

"We arrested the two men under the Electronic Transactions Act and other forgery laws and started investigating their international links," Central Investigation Department official Usman Ashgar Qureshi told AFP .

Initial inquiries suggested that the two Malaysians were part of an international cyber-crime racket, Qureshi said.

"We are also investigating their possible links with any terrorist outfit and trying to find where the looted money was going," Qureshi said.

The Malaysians had visited Pakistan three times in recent months and were skilled with computers, he said.

If found guilty they could be sentenced up to seven years in jail under Pakistani laws.

Police were also looking for an alleged Pakistani accomplice.
