Malaysia's largest telecommunications company Telekom Malaysia Tuesday denied a report it is talks to acquire a stake in Philippine mobile operator Sun Cellular.

"We are aware that there is an official process to dispose a minority stake in Sun Cellular," said Telekom Malaysia group chief executive Abdul Wahid Omar.

"However, there is no active discussion on our part with Sun Cellular," he told reporters.

The Edge financial weekly reported over the weekend that Sun Cellular, owned by the Philippine-listed Digital Telecommunications Inc, is wooing two Malaysian companies including Telekom Malaysia in its search for a strategic partner here.

Although dismissing the report, Abdul Wahid said Telekom would be interested in venturing into the Philippine mobile phone market.
